Only reason I'd look into getting a VR6 is for the extra standard features that come on the car - Trip computer, 17" wheels, etc.

What are your thoughts on the difference between the two? They have similar power outputs, right?

    :dunno:

I hear ya... this is an age old argument though that STILL hasnt been settled...

vr6 if you like torque and dont plan to mod, 1.8T if you want a higher, free revving, boosted motor that is very mod-able...

Neither. Get a TDI with nitrous and propane injection!

    :bigthumb:

Not necessarily better, I'd just like to see it done.

    1.8t for fuel efficiency.

I've NEVER EVEN DRIVEN a volkswagen, of any sort, but somehow still know this shit from reading the damned car boards for the past several years...

They did it with a Duramax on Trucks and the thing gained more than 350 ft lbs of torque. I don't see why you can do it with a TDI???

if you are buying brand new
i would go for the 1.8T as the stock HP has been boosted

my 2.0 was making the 1.8Ts look bad before they hit the boost :o

also you have much more room to mod in excess..also the 1.8T is a newer and better designed engine

    i like the vr6, but a 1.8T is temping

my buddy has a propane injected F250 with the 7.x Litre powerstroke...

safe to say, it has a pretty good bit of torque...

Id honestly love to see that done to a TDI just out of curiosity.

I'd probably get a 1.8T and upgrade the ECU... 220HP/200ft-lbs is a pretty good little engine, and it'll still get 24mpg. :big grin:

    1.8T
more modable, all options except climatronic available.
    less noseheavy so less understeer.
similar power, though stock vr6 may be slightly faster (by like .1 second in the 1/4)

1.8t if you are planning to mod the car.
VR6 if you want to keep it stock.

a4 1.8t's are DOGS compared to GTI 1.8t's
first of all 180hp. second no quatro, third much less weight. This leads gti 1.8t's to be running low 15's, high 14's while a4's are mid 16s...

What do you want out of the car? Do you plan on trying to make it into a "race" car?

in other news, 1.8T is a nightmare to launch at the track, while the vr6 is more point-n-click....

btw if getting auto get the vr6 since the 1.8t sucks ballz on auto.

    I  my 1.8T.

The VR6 was smooth, but just didn't do it for me. My advice is to drive them both.

Even the tiptronic doesn't do it ANY justice. Auto + VR6 = win.
