for my third set i did 325 for 5 reps.. not too bad, i think. i weigh 165 lbs @ 5' 8" and i'm currently cutting

although when i do them i still think my form isn't as good as it could be. do i stare at a point in front of me on the wall like i do when i do squats? for some reason when i deadlift it feels like i have to much weight leaning forward, but if i lean back the bar just drags up my shins or gets caught trying to get around my knees. what's the deal with that?

    any pointers for deadlifts?

my squat form use to suck too but i think i've perfected it with tips i got off the internet. the main things that helped me were when i read to "keep my shins as perpendicular as possible to the floor, keep the weight on your heels, look at the point straight ahead when going down and then look up when going up.

i'm hoping some tips like that could get my deadlifts in good form as well.

p.s. oh, and the "act liek you're sitting down on the toilet" comment for squats helped me too, i actually think of that everytime I go down for squats =D

Lead with your head and stick your chest out. Pull the bar up and back and picture that you're trying to drive your heels into the ground rather than trying to lift the bar.

I'm pretty sure it's normal for the bar to make contact with your shins and knees as it goes up.

That's why I use the a pretty worn-out bar for my deadlifts. When I'm done with a set of 5x5, I have red stripes that go from mid-shin to the tops of my knees.

closer the bar is to your body the better.

i deaded last week for the first time in almost 18 months. Fuck man my shins were toast, the scar tissue wasnt there anymore to help block it. I did

    135 x20 (find my grove)
    225 x 15
    315 x10
405 x8 (back kinda spoke to me)

did ok considering i did legs the night before an they were sore. Forgot the rush you get from doing them though. Felt good

btw - do you guys "touch and go" on your deadlift or do you stop and lift from dead weight on every single rep?

ya, i feel like i might stiff leg it too much too. in fact when i started lifting stiff-legged deadlifts were all i did so trying to do regular deadlifts now just feels wierd.

i touch between each rep, but i make sure i go down slow and controlled. sometimes if i feel pretty dead but want to 1-2 more reps i'll set it on the ground for 1-2 seconds before the next rep.

Who's to say that that's the wrong way? That's how the best deadlifters pull.
