    Virginia.

Maybe not the most awesome state in your country, but I'm still very excited about it. Booked my ticket today :big grin:, going next week.

Just going to see a friend but will ofcourse bring my camera (don't think I will bother to bring my tripod though).

That's all. Great thread huh? :greddy:

Darn. Nova is nice and then you'd have a chance to check out DC too...
Can't wait to get back to metro area for the summer.

Actually, Norfolk is generally said to be in the tidewater area. Its down near the end of the peninsula. The Chesapeake Bay should provide a number of good photo opportunities, plus some of the finest sea food around. A bit further up is Colonial Williamsburg, a living history museum town. Williamsburg was one of the most important American pre-revolutionary sites, and has long been a favorite with photographers. The peninnsula still has a lot of woods and few people. Even during the Civil War (1861-1865) the area was so poorly mapped that the Confederates (whose ground it was) had virtually no maps and were continually getting lost there. I doubt you'd run into any 'Deliverance' types, but the population is distinctly small town and rural.

Richmond and Washington DC are both close. To give you some indication of the closeness, I know of a number of retired officers who live in and around Richmond that commute daily to Washington DC. Washington, of course is a filled with stuff that just begs to be photographed... and much of it hasn't been done so often as to become cliches. Washington is a curious place. From Washington its another commuter's drive to Maryland. Baltimore isn't one of my personal favorites, but its a place even more associated with the Chesapeake Bay than Norfolk. Great crabcakes, and we usually visit Ananpolis when we're in the area. If you can't find something interesting to shoot there, you must be blind or without imagination.

There should be ample opportunities to use your camera(s) during a laid-back visit. Please post your results after the trip.
