Lets say I take my SBR and remove the stock and shoot it as a pistol. Is that legal? It does have a vertical fore grip.

If it matters it is pre-ban in CT.

    yes

the only questioning would come from trying to use an ar pistol with a rifle tube. that's where you run into issues. and by issues i mean fpmitap.

    Oh. :o

I once saw a "pistol" AR at a gun show on a dealer's table with a rifle tube. It didn't even have foam over it. You could have slipped a stock right onto it.

At another show I saw a guy trying to sell a single shot 12ga with about an 8" barrel and the stock lobbed off right past where you grab it. He walked it past probably 5-6 cops and no one told him a damn thing. The dude didn't have a clue either. My friend and I clued him in and he told his son "go find the guy that was going to give us $80 for it."

why? it doesn't matter what you do, you've already registered it as an SBR.

Call the ATF and ask them if you can take the stock off your SBR. ;)

It's not a pistol or a rifle, it's a SBR. You can have the stock on or off, it doesn't matter.

if you have a legal sbr then it doesnt matter if you take the stock off of it. if you have a sbr illegally and take the stock off of it you'll need to take the front grip off of it also for it to comply with "pistol"

if you take the stock off, it's still a rifle until you put a pistol buffer tube on it. you better make damn sure you don't have a shorty upper in the same place and don't put that upper on until you have a pistol tube on it.

    Define SBR. Short Barreled Rifle?

  23. To get the stock off the tube just pull down on the lever until the pin comes down far enough to allow you to pull the stock off the tube. To remove the tube just remove the castle nut, then unscrew the tube.

I thought it was the other way around but you might be right.

In any event, you can't have a shorty upper on any lower with a rifle buffer tube unless you've got a stamp for it.
