    ...?

Why cant you make straight full-quality copies?

I heard something like dual-layer DVD writers arent out yet, is that the reason?

Yes you can only write a single layer.

out of 50 backups, I think I had to compress maybe 4 of them, if you don't want to, use another disk. I have compressed 50% and saw no quality loss

movie DVDs use dual layer DVDs which hold 9gb

    DVD-R and DVD+R only hold 4.5gb

    do the math

A lot of time if you remove all of the extras and just copy the movie you can get it to fit uncompressed on a DVDxR.

Can't you just take out the extra shit?

Yes but alot of the time the extra shit doesn't add up to much.

It does when I do it. I'll remove all the extra crap and then I'll go in and reauthor it to cut off the credits at the end. I mean, who watches credits.

True, but when you're working with a huge movie...
I've dealt with some dvd's where the movie file itself is 8gb. So killing the extras wont do shit.

Wait.. I only have one space for an optical drive. So copying directly from disc to disc is out.
Anyone copy from disc > image > DVDR?

All you have to do is use DVD Shrink and trash the extra audio tracks. If there is a Dolby Digital and DTS track, I delete the DD one. For the most part lately, I've been just ripping only the movie from retail DVD's. I don't even mess with the menus anymore. I like to just stick in a DVD-R and have the movie start right up. No FBI warning or anything else. :wiggle:

$500-600 and I can only imagine the prices of the media for them. :eek3:

Expect to see the burners pop up in April.
