I'm gone during the week and we recently got a working garage door opener. So it now appears as though no one is home. My girlfriend hears someone trying to open the back patio door which is locked. When she gets to the door, shotgun in hand, she sees someone running away.

The last thing I want is to shoot some stupid kid, but I'd like some advanced notice if someone is trying to break in.

So any suggestions on a surveillance system? I'm hoping to not spend much, but I'd like a simple wireless system that I can record to VCR and display on the tv in the bedroom.

Also next on the shopping list is a riot barrel and light for the 870. Any suggestions. Surefire seems over priced.

    Update:

Well I picked up a camera at Fry's. $99 for a Swan bulldog which is color and infrared. They had a nice 4 camera system w/DVR for $375, but I figure the extra $275 is better spent on guns. I can run this into the VCR and TV in the bedroom so at least you can see what's going on in the back yard. Picture's not bad better than it looks here, color is ok. :dunno:

Anyone know where I can find the old style surefire forend? The new ones are a little star trek. Looking for this:

Do you have a Frys in your area? They aren't the cheapest, but they have some decent starter systems. If you're technically inclined, you can build a PC, and then use it to record feeds from several network attached camera.

First thing I would get is motion activated lights and perhaps a dog.

Is the cord to the camera running across the patio? Seems like it'd be pretty easy to get behind the camer and snip the wire before it ever sees anyone.

that's the satelite dish, which is another thing on the to-do list. I'm going to run the cord along the roof. The camera is actually in a good spot as there not really any access to it without walking infront of it.

I was thinking a motion light, but they actually approached the door with the light already on :ugh:
