I bought my first shotgun this week. It is the Mossberg 535 that comes with 3 barrels. I want to turkey hunt this year which starts May 1st. So I went and shot it yesterday to get used to it and noticed that something was wrong with it. Come to find out the spring in the loading mechanism has somehow spun up and doesnt fully extend so that there isnt enough back pressure on the shell. I took it to where I bought it and they said that they would send it to mossberg for me because it is covered under warranty. Thats great, but I have 4 weeks until the season starts and this is my only shotgun.
I took it to a gunsmith who said that they could probably fix it but it might damage the camo finish and he cant match what Mossberg did, and my best bet is to send it back. So I asked him if he knew the turn around and I was told he just got one back and it took 2 months. Which is great.. Just in time for the season to be over.. :squint:

If its internal why would it affect the camo?

because they use loctite on the threads.. So it takes a bit of force and sometimes heat to get it off. So there is potential of damaging it with too much force. It is a simple job except for the loctite.

Guns look better beat up and used, let him fix it. The spring in the shell tube is probably just bound on a machining burr or something.

you can see that it is coiled up on itself. It needs to be taken a part and fixed.. I can still chamber a shell and have no problems, so i think I am going to go through turkey season and then send it in. I doubt that I will get 2 shots off at a turkey, or need to anyway. So it should be fine.
