A&P So a friend wants me to shoot photos for him next week...

Discussion in 'Lifestyle' started by coughlin's law, Jul 18, 2009.

  1. I sold my 50mm 1.8, Sigma 10-20... just have my Rebel XT with the kit lens. But what I was wondering -- does anyone need special equipment for a club setting? Couldn't I just get away with my kit lens, shoot 1/100 with F/4 or 5.6 and ISO 100 and play with the flash exposure? :dunno:

Would I really need anything besides that? I think so often when I used to have a lens that was 2.8 and a 430ex flash thrown on top, that somehow the photos would be magically better. The 430ex was probably a bit too powerful, and the 2.8 lens was hunting frequently.

If you've got the 430EX on top the lens shouldn't hunt with the AF Assist beam firing. Are you using servo or focus priority?

If a black background is what you want, shoot 1/100 with F/4 or 5.6 and ISO 100 should work just fine. I usually shoot 800ISO, 1/30, f/3.5-4 or around there with a flash bounced.

Club photography? If he's just looking for patron shots, you'll be fine with the kit lens and on-board flash. Not ideal by any means, but it will work.

    ISO 100-200
    Shutter 1/10-40
    Aperture f/4.5-5.6
