My girlfriend is getting me a knife for christmas. Kershaw is a little too expensive. I wanted something for defense. I'm still deciding between folding and boot. What do you guys think about this SW knife? It's pretty cheap ~$30. I don't really know much about S&W knives though. How are they?

i've had a folding one for years, it gets the job done. it's nothing great or grand, just a folding knife worth $30

Kershaws or CRKT's shouldn't be more than $30-40 and most use better metals than S&W.

For a beater they're okay. :dunno:

How are Gerber knives? More for a beater and such. Reason is: I save on shipping if I buy both :)

S&Ws will do the job but they definately arent the nicest knives out there. I'd take a Gerber over one without a doubt.

I use a Gerber Truss 2.5 for my EDC. It replaced my Spyderfly as EDC.
