I really WANT a MacBook. Currently, I have a DELL E1505 with Vista and it's treating me alright. I just really have the "bug" to get a Mac. There is not a NEED, just a WANT. Is it smart to switch to a Mac in the middle of a semester? I would need to learn a lot of things about OS X. Should I just wait till summer? And hey, I might get an update at WWDC... :hsugh:

Use OS X for a week and you'll be pretty much set.

I got my first mac mid semester freshman year and used both my mac and PC for a few weeks then sold off the PC. it wasn't a problem at all, as long as your not an idiot.

Also, you can now dual boot windows if you need to, i didnt have that option back in the day...

doesn't your school have a computer center? if so, there have to be some Macs there. go futz around with OSX for an hour or so and you'll see how easy it is to pick up.

I see no reason why not to. You'll learn stuff. How much do you actually do on the computer for school besides email, web, and word processing/powerpoint anyways?

I got a macbook over Thanksgiving break last semester

There are still a few things that annoy about OS:X, but I think they are mainly my fault and there are probably easy work arounds for them :o

Switched middle of last semester, not my first mac, but the first since my old LC nearly 18 years ago.

Do it, you won't regret it at all. My only issue was converting .docx files from Windows office 2007 to .doc so Office 2004 Mac could read them. Office 2008 is out but not available at the campus bookstore yet... I'm waiting until it is so I can get it for $40.

I did this in my last semester of college, and didn't have a problem at all... I also got to take advantage of student discounts on software for my new Mac also. :bigthumb:

They're not hard to pick up and use if you have every used a computer before.
