Someone posted a new pistol that reads your hand grip, and will not fire if it isn't you holding the weapon. Anyone have any more information on this pistol?

So you can't shoot it if you're wearing gloves, or if you switch to your left hand?

The kind I've always seen has some kind of bracelet or ring that you wear. They always sell them as ways to keep a police officer's weapon from being used against them but if you ring breaks during an altercation or if the person is smart enough to take it and throw it away the cop is screwed.

It will fail like every other "smart weapon" designed.

    registration? programming? microprocessors?

Great, so you have a gun that only you can shoot, so you can't bring people into the sport of shooting, without them buying a gun first. Then you have to register this gun, and program it to you're hand at a police firing range, where I'm sure, things will go smoothly and quickly. Then, you have to worry about changing the batteries on your gun, because if you forget and it dies, you are carrying around a paperweight in an expensive holster.

    Sounds like a winner :ugh:

not to mention I'm sure it can just FAIL - just like every other device. The anti-gun crowd won't care though, they'll just be happy that they made a change, no matter how useless it is (if a few law abiding citizens are killed because their guns failed with the extra complexity, well then that's just too bad).

but if it saves *one* life it is worth it

never mind the others who are killed because of an electronic gun

what ever happened to a free cable lock and some situational awareness? Figures the hippies look for the easy way that makes everything more complicated. :mamoru:

Come on, this would be great for LEO and people who are just buying one for home defense (whether or not they should buy a pistol is another discussion).
Why would it require batteries? It could have one of those devices watchmakers put in kinetic watches. I know I am running the risk of sounding stupid, but micro technology has come a long way.

It seems like they're coming up with a solution to a problem that isn't there. Don't want cops getting shot with their own weapon? Then you need to train them better in how to protect their firearm from being taken away. And home defense, what if you're not home but your wife is? She can't do anything unless she has a cast of your hand.

Yeah, but as soon as it becomes generally flaw free and not too expensive, they will change laws banning the purchase of new guns w/o it or something stupid

All I'm saying is that someone probably bitched at all the safety features of the 1911 when it first came out.

unless it's something that makes the sight of the gun super impose crosshairs over your retina showing where you're pointing, then i don't want it.

Situation awareness, common sense and a cable lock go a LONG way.
