I'm going to be moving into a new place soon and I'd like my bedroom to be organized and cleaner :)o) than my current room. It's a small room, so there's not alot of space to work with (roughly 10 ft by 11). I'm looking to get a full size bed, a desk, a tv stand, and a dresser or a closet storage system into my room. is that too much for small area?

I'd also like new bed linens, a simple lighting fixture or some sort and maybe some wall art.

What are some basic guidelines for setting up and decorating a small room (use of space, color, etc)?

my only real advice would be to select your furniture while keeping the scale of the room in mind.

At 10x11, a full-size bed is already gonna occupy nearly 1/3 of the space. I'd go with something fairly low that doesn't use a box-spring. Not crazy low. I've always liked the Ikea Malm bed, because you can buy matching side tables and storage options that look like they're integrated into the bed frame.

As for the closet system, you might wanna consider doing something like Yardsale's bookshelf (also from Ikea), the nice thing about that is that it can double as a room divider. The down-side is that if you don't keep your clothes nicely folded then it'll look messy. You can buy storage bins that fit inside the cubes for your socks and underwear.

If you don't like the room-divider/shelf idea, you could do one of those standing units, but in the interest of it not being boring, I would consider something like this with frosted glass doors. It's just more interesting and you can even put lights on the inside to make it all sexy like :hs:

The desk is fairly standard, I mean, you could do whatever you want here...but just make sure that it's not too deep. I wouldn't go any deeper than 22-24" just because with a flat panel monitor, you'd be wasting a ton of valuable space :hs:

As for color, with that small space, stay away from dark colors that will close it in and make things seem even more cramped. I'd stick with neutrals and just pick an accent or color or two and accessorize.

    Good luck :wavey:

my only gripe with black furniture is that it's tough to keep clean. a few black pieces aren't bad, but I wouldn't go with ALL black though, that'd be too much. You could always compromise and go with the medium brown; I bought that one and have no regrets :hs:

it's weird how they do that to some places. I have a studio too, but I have two huge walk-in closets: one large enough to fit a queen bed in, another that's a little smaller and another one that's' like 5'x3.5'
