On June 1st I decided to stop being fat. I was 6'4" and about 311-312 pounds.

I started working out 3-4 days a week doing cardio, and eating better. After a week or two I started drinking Slim Fast shakes for breakfast and lunch because I was pretty busy, and they were cheap (about a dollar a meal) and I was broke. I burn about 500 calories each time in the gym, but need to bump up the time I spend to burn 8 or 900.

I haven't worked out the last two weeks because I've been working 14 hour days, but I picked it back up yesterday.

Anyhow, I've lost 12-13 pounds so far. First time in god knows how long that I've been under 300. Registered 299.4 on the scale. The goal is 250, and hopefully more in the long run, but I am shooting for 6-8 pounds lost each month.

Clothes fit better, I feel better...it's win win, I'm just mad it took me so long to get my shit together.

23 last week. I've had a multimillion dollar gym at my disposal at school for 5 years, and just now got my shit together. I need to be in shape because I'll look better, but most important, I want to be healthy in the long-term.

The price is right, and I supplement it with fruits and what not. It's no long term plan, but it helps when I'm on the go.

Yeah, I pretty much only do cardio, it's a problem. I don't know too much about weight training, so I have to go with friends that do. Unfortunately, no one is really around this Summer, and when I go, I rarely have time to stay for extended periods of time. That will change here in the next couple weeks once they get back to school and their membership picks up again, and my work/school schedule is more or less consistent.

If you don't do weight training you're gonna lose what little muscle you have. If you work out hard you can replace some of your fat with muscle and you will feel much better.

You don't need to lose that fast for the record... I believe 1 pound a week is the "healthy maximum".

Keep it up. Congrats on your decision to better yourself.

How about replacing the slimfast for a protein shake + light resistance training at least 3 times a week on top of your cardio regiment?

Light weights 3-4 sets 10-15 repetitions.

Building muscle burns calories long after the workout is over.

Is he really going to lose muscle before fat? I doubt that protein is a better energy source than fat...

It's very hard to lose fat and gain muscle for someone who's been working out for a while... but for a noob it is definitely possible.

I def. need to start lifting more often. No doubt about that.

I don't know how much I should be getting each day, but each slimfast has 10g protein and a vast assortment of vitamins and minerals. So at least I'm getting more nutrition than my past diet of no breakfast, fast food for lunch, and whatever for dinner.

Do I need that much if I'm trying to lose a lot of weight? I need to drop 50 pounds, minimum, then I'll just have to see after that.

yea, its probably the fact that he is eating (drinking) a slimfast to replace both breakfast and lunch.

Didn't work out from July 11-27 because of work, so no real progress there.

Stopped drinking sodas in January, so I lost anything from that months before.

I rarely eat fast food now, and if I do, I steer clear of fried shit...it tears my stomach up now :(

its not as hard as it sounds man.. when i was in HS i dropped from 285-195 in less than 6 months. dont restrict what you eat, just be smart about what you eat, theres plenty of good shit out there that tastes good. also, make sure to make no excuses when it comes to working out.. i used to go running around the neighborhood at 10-11:00 at night after hockey games (legs already toasted as fuck) just to get my extra cardio in for the day. weight lifting helps a lot too.. wait til you get the endorphin rushes holy shit you wont be able to stop.

Working out has gotten easier and easier, as far as motivation. I feel bad when I don't go now, which is good. I've got to up my cardio from 30min to 45-1hr and start doing weight training at least 2-3 times a week.
