I want to put in dual 880GTX video cards but in doing that it will cause me to have to remove my SB X-Fi as I only have 1 PCI slot. I would at that point be using the onboard AudioMax 7.1 sound board. My system is less than a year old and I really don't want to shell out for a new mb/proc as well as the two video cards. Thoughts/suggestions.

your 8800gtx uses pci-16x. the x-fi just uses pci. They're different slots, so that means you'll have to use a different mobo. You can buy one from newegg for about $70 or so. Also you might need a new psu seeing as how a gtx can use around 270watts max or around there ish..

More like $270. An SLI board does not come cheap.

I don't think you understand what he is trying to say.

So airbatt, you are saying if you install a second GTS, it is going to block your remaining PCI slots? Well you could buy the GTX and find a good single-slot cooler for it. I believe thermaltake makes one that can handle the heat. Yes I know thermaltake sucks balls, but the heatsink isn't that bad.

I just saw an ad for a new Zalman that is made for the 8800 series, as well.

Fuck SLI. You'll be able to get the same performance as two SLI cards from a single card in six months. I guarantee you're not actually playing any games that you need SLI in order to enjoy.

Also, even if you bought a new motherboard, you could use your existing processor. It's not like it's welded into the socket.

Yeah what I wanted to do was put in 2x 8800gtx, but I would lose my only PCI slot hence I would have to go to onboard audio. So, do I go to onboard audio or do I just stay with a single solution?

got any other PCI-Express slot available?

This will work on any PCI-Express 1x, 4x, or 16x

IMO, just go single, SLI is not worth it
