My current card is a 7600gt, AMD X2 5300 65watt, 2gigs of ram, 2 harddrives Raid 0. Is there any reason to go Vista and direct X 10 or should I just stay with Windows XP and get another 7600gt?

I don' think Direct X 10 is all that big of a deal, so switching to Vista isn't crucial at the moment. As for another 7600GT, that's just dumb. SLI is pointless. Save up and get an 8800GT or Radeon 3870 if you want something a little cheaper.

Both of those cards are over 300 bucks when a 7600gt is 89.00 bucks...

8800GT is $270 and the Radeon 3870 is $219. There are some claims suggesting that the price of the 8800GT will drop in a few weeks/months. And besides, SLI 7600GT is worthless.

I failed to asked, but what kind of games do you play and plan to play?

I really don't play too many high end games and I doubt I will be playing ones requiring Vista/DirectX10. I am just not sure if I am going make the switch yet. I am playing BF2142, Orange Box and plan to play Call of Duty 4.

SLI would be a waste of money with a 7600GT at this point. It sounds like you're trying to fix problems that don't exist. If you're able to run everything you play; then why upgrade anything? If you're dying to purchase something; then an 8800GT is really the only upgrade worth spending any money on. DX10 is basically a joke at this point. I've installed Vista 3-4 times now, and I end up back on XP within the week. Vista just kind of sucks still.

If that's the case, then just stick with one 7600GT. Before I upgraded to an 8800GT, I played COD4 with a 7600GT just fine on medium settings.

Like baker5721 said, the 8800GT is the only thing really worth upgrading to.

the 8800GT is the only card that makes sense getting at this point in time.

I have Vista and DX10. I have an 8800GTS320 from eVGA and if nothing comes out before my step up is over I'll probably go for the 8800GT

So SLI is still a waste of money no matter what then? I just heard that it was getting better but I guess not huh.

it's just not really necessary. if you have the money to spend on 2 cards, minus whale just buy the 8800 ultra or GTX

I'd wait to see if the backport of DirectX 10 to XP turns out to work well, before I'd upgrade.
