If I am not in competition how important is sleep essentially? I get roughly 6 hours of sleep a night. My diet consist of:

    Morning:
    1xegg
    3xegg whites
    2 packages oatmeal

    Snack:
    2xrice cakes

    Lunch:
    8oz tilapia
    1 cup brown rice
    1 cup broccoli

    Snack:
    2xgronola bars

    WORKOUT:
    protien shake after

    Dinner:
    8oz lean meat
    1 cup brown rice
    1 cup greens

    Snack:
    yogart

Whats it look like? Is sleep really going to be a factor in my results? If so, what can I expect?

your muscles grow while sleeping. that is the only time they get bigger and stronger. 6 hours obviously isn't optimal. You can still get good gains for sure, but probably hampered a little..who knows how much. maybe it won't even matter for you

    Yes, sleep is important.

6 hours isn't that bad. 8 would be better, but 6 is better than a lot of people can manage.

    As for that diet:

Get the protein up a bit. When you have those rice cakes, have a protein shake as well.

What are your goals? Cut, maintain, bulk?

PB would be good. Your diet is lacking in healthy fats as well. When you make that brown rice I would throw in some olive oil as well.
I would actually add both PB and the protein shake. But that's me.

When I went from sleeping 5-6 hours a night to 8-9 hours a night I made my best gains.

My goal is to cut and maintain after my cut. So olive oil to my rice, and some PB on the rice cakes? What do you suggest as far as healthy fats, and how much if I am trying to cut as well?

    Thank again guys.

I did not know this. I always thought they recuperated during the body's rest times, sleeping or other wise. Thanks for the heads up.

well ceaze said it's incorrect, and he knows more than me :o

sleep is definitely crucial though, muscles may grow at other times too, but i think sleep is the most important time
