    Anybody have this?

I'm pretty sure I do. Been noticing I keep waking up in the middle of the night for no reason all the time.

Tonight I was sleeping but still somewhat-conscious (doesn't make any sense but I wasn't in deep sleep) and noticed 3-4 times in half an hour that I had stopped breathing for the past little while.

What are the usual fixes? Does this sound like it?:noes:

I do, I sleep with a CPAP machine, and yes it does sound like you have sleep apnea, I suggest you go to the stanford sleep clinic in Palo Alto

  3. Whats a Sleep Clinic? I'm also from SJ.

I've been sleeping like 13-14 hours a day recently between night time sleep and naps...it feels weird. I'm just tired all the time though...bleh. Try smoking weed.

You're going through other personal problems though, aren't you? IIRC it was pretty bad and there's a good reason for you to always be tired.

Chris go get checked out anyway. It's possible that you have a minor form and it could be cured with some surgery instead of having to use a machine.

I have it and have been on a CPAP for about 6 months. I have noticed a difference, but I still don't get as much sleep as I should.

It took me about a week before I could sleep through the night with it. Now it isn't a problem at all.

i used to have it real bad i would snore as loud as a dying bear and wake up constantly.

i got my tonsils out and it got rid of the sleep apnea. i haven't snored in years.

  13. Well yeah...still having sleeping problems though so I thought I'd chime in. :o

Just curious, out of all you guys with "diagnosed" sleep apnea, how many are over weight or were at the time of diagnosis?

My dad has a CPAP he uses and absolutely cannot sleep without it. Before getting his CPAP he would wake up gasping for air, couldn't sleep more than 15min without waking up, and it gave him such bad acid reflux disease that he would wake up throwing up.

He is about 80lbs over weight though.

Since his CPAP he has not had a single problem.

When I went for my first sleep study I was around 250 I believe.

I waited and when I went to the 2nd sleep study I was like 235.

I'm currently at like 225 and still need the machine.

I could still lose more weight, but I'm not grossly overweight.

With some people its genetics (jaw structure, soft pallet, tonsils, etc) .

I got mine when I was heavy. I lost 50 pounds and still need it. Doc said I'd have to have my tonsils removed to fix the problem but insurance will not cover it for apnea purposes.

They told me my setting was so high that I could have surgery and would most likely still need the machine.

what made you guys decide to go and get tested?

I'm thinking I may have it but going and sleeping there and being hooked up to a machine seems like such a pain in the ass

I've heard that once you get it, you typically still need the CPAP after dropping weight, but the symptoms are less severe. I could be wrong though.

What do the tonsils have to do with it?

My mom and uncle are both of CPAPs. My mom was serverly overweight, but my uncle was in good shape and still needed one. I was constantly tired, I could never wake up, and I always felt like shit. It wasn't uncommon for me to sleep 12-14 hours on Saturday and wake up feeling like utter shit and blowing my whole day.

I didn't want to deal with that shit anymore, so I decided to get tested.

I felt like I wasn't recovering between workouts. I was falling asleep at work. I fell asleep while driving and rear-ended someone. I felt like shit all the time.

From what I have been told by the doctors, for younger people they are more willing to perform surgery if it will stop the problem. It depends on the severity of the sleep apnea.

I have seen threads in the main forum where people were diagnosed and given the option of having surgery or using the CPAP and they opted for the surgery.

That's how my dad was pre-CPAP.

He could seriously fall asleep ANYWHERE! He would be at the dinner table with a cig falling asleep in the chair sitting upright.

I had my tonsils removed and dropped a bunch of fat. As far as I can tell it solved the problem.
