Well Fugitive Task Force is at it again with their misinformation of weapons stats. This week they had a standoff with a fugitive who had an SKS. He was on the second floor on the balcony, and was suppressing 5 officers in the adjoining apt. unit. The narrator and other officers state that bringing a pistol to a rifle fight is like bringing a knife to a gun fight. This it where the truth ends and the BS begins...

The next thing out of the guys mouth was "accuracy is really only dependent on the length of the barrel." They go on to state that "the Glock 22 which is a common police sidearm has a barrel length of only 4.2 inches and is accurate out to 75 yards (?) and that the high powered evil brown assault rifle SKS has a barrel length of 20 inches and is accurate out to 433 yards." It is undoubtedly true that rifles are always better than pistols, but this is blowing shit out of proportion.

    :ugh:

Where do they come up with this shit?

Someone needs to post the vid of the guy using his glock to shoot the metal target 100 yards away upside down. It had something to do with the sale of sights.

It wasn't the sale of sights, it was debunking popular internet garbage that XS Big Dot sights weren't worth a shit past 20 yards (or insert yardage of choice here.)

So Yeager popped plates at 100 yards with them. Shay probably has the video or a link to it somewhere..

so you aim about 6 foot above the target, to reach that distance with a 7.62X39???

My point is that these geniuses are oversimplifying alot of shit (accuracy=barrel length), and then making the assumption that the average person could hit a barn let alone an officer @ 400 yards.

So, you're saying if I got an SKS with a 36" barrel I can't make accurate shots out to 1000 yards? It's something that these people just don't understand, even if the tool is capable that doesn't mean very many people are.

Yes. The average idiot that goes toe to toe with a fully armed SWAT team is probably not smart enough/skilled enough to hit a target out to 1000 yards.

I'd love for just once, only once, a reporter interviews one of the SWAT snipers or any other kind of marksman about their training regimen. How often, how much their rifle cost, etc. Follow it up with, "If I were to replace your scoped rifle with this basic model sks, could you achieve the same shots as before?" A guy can hope can't he? :x:

After spending 3 days with the guys at Black Diamond Private Contractors, I can tell you that they would laugh their asses off if someone asked them that. They hold training courses all over the country, ranging from personal securty domestic and overseas to elite LE sniper units to surveilance. If they could get cloveleaf groupings @ 400 yards with a POS (comparatively speaking) SKS, then they would forego the $2000+ price tag of a tuned M24 or Remmy M700. But alas, that cannot and will not happen.

    Is Shay VanVlymen on Offtopic?

That'd ruin the TR course I'm about to take.

It would shatter my illusion of Offtopic, which, while WMD seems largely exempted from, is generally WRX>mustang, Squeezer, balla, Ionium and a healthy dose of LOUDSYSTEM.

The Tactical Response people seem far too cool to be on here :hs: is what I'm getting at.

That, and I'd be expecting someone to start screaming Peanut Butter & Jelly Time or like, at lunch, hit us with a refrain from Stairway to Harlem.

Shay used to be on here, I don't see him that much anymore, but he's the only TR person I know is here. I'd love to train with any of them.

I'm taking 'The Fight' in November. There's also an EAG Tactical course I am going to try my damnedest to get in on. If I can get all my eggs in a basket, it should be good to get me onto 10-8 (not like I'd ever post, nothing to contribute, but would be nice to finally be able to see what posts are new). That's probably my favorite forum, right now.

Oh, no, I know that, which is why I would be so depressed to hear he's here on OT, it would cause my perceptions of reality to fold and double upon themselves. In a board with people like Platinum_Thunder, how can there be cool people like him on here? :big grin:
