(This thread has never been done before I'm sure.... :mamoru: But after searching around I don't really have the answers I'm looking for. Just want something direct.)

    I'm about 155lbs at like 6'0", so I'm a pretty skinny guy.

I'm ridiculously out of shape, I literally do no physical activity. But I'm a freshman in college, with a ridiculously high meal plan and lots of free time to go to the gym. So I'm focused on getting bigger/more defined. Definitely would like to put on like 20-30lbs of muscle in the next year (that's feasible right?). But to be honest, I've been reading up a lot on stuff, but I'm still not sure what I should be doing other than "eat a shit ton and work out."

While I've worked out in the past, I just kinda did exercises without much rhyme or reason. So I imagine that was fairly ineffective.

Can you guys help me form a routine and tell me what I should be eating? Or post links that are concise as fuck...

do the stickied BB routine or the Bill Starr routine

since you're skinny with no muscle, you don't need to worry about eating 100% clean, you need to worry about getting in lots of protein and eating more than you're used to. Obviously, don't go and snarf down Wendys everyday, but with a college meal plan you should have the easiest time ever eating a ton of good food. Steak, chicken, fish, turkey, eggs, rice, nuts, veggies, etc. Eat way more than you're used to. And read the goddamn stickies

yes, it is quite easy to just gain 20-30lbs of fat in a year. I'd love to see what you look like gaining more than 20-30lbs in less than a year.

at most the average man puts on 8-10lbs of muscle a year, everything else you think you are gaining is just fat.

I did the whole "eat as much as you want and lift big" thing for a year, gained like 15lbs or so and 3 months later wound up with a gut for the first time in my life.

having a gut sticking out further than your chest is worse than being skinny with no chest :hs:

    Holy fuck 6'6" 147

I thought I was pretty skinny and I started at 215 at the same height :o

You were probably eating crap food, eating too much, or not pushing yourself enough in the gym. Eating above maintenance is how you gain size, period.

You're doing it wrong if you only put on 8 pounds in a year, proof positive right here, added FIFTY pounds in a year (obviously not all muscle, but way more than EIGHT POUNDS  and I didn't end up much fatter than I started):

I guess it depends up what your goals are. Like I said it was easy to put on 20 or 30 pounds in a year, and naturally you gain strength with that, but for me it was mostly fat. Losing the fat while maintaining my strength confirms that.

Also despite whatever is in your log that I didnt read I believe it to be very uncommon for someone to gain more than 10lbs of lean muscle in one year. And if the PO is a 'skinny fuck' then he doesnt have the body or build where I would see him wanting to be strong yet chunky :dunno:

there is no way a skinny fuck type of build will start up at the gym and add 20lbs of muscle to themselves in a year. the number on the scale is easy to get to go up by 20, but they wont add or look like they have added 20lbs of muscle

I started last April seriously lifting at 6'6 175. I have been consistently lifting and am now 6'7 205. Yes I'm still an extremely skinny bitch but i can guarantee that all the weight gained was muscle, If anything i have toned down.

i went from 6'1" 140 to 167 in 3 months. waist didn't change and could still see my abs as clear as the day i started lifting. sure not everything was muscle, but a good chunk of it certainly was.

i went from 120 to 170lbs in a little less than 2 years @ 5'11. i'd say it was mostly all lean mass. this was when i was 18 to 20 years old, i'm 25 now.

http://www.railmaster.net/beforeafter.jpg the only before pic i had.. this was 5 years ago. i weigh 160-165 now but havent been to the gym in 4 years until last month.
