    Blackheads

I recently heard about this on another website and I thought I'd share my findings...

I've never had bad skin, just the occasional break out. Lately it's been more frequent than I'd like it to be. I was using this 3-step treatment similar to Pro-Activ and while it wasn't making my skin worse, it wasn't giving me the results I had hoped for.

I switched to Neutrogena over-the-counter products: 2% salicylic acid astringent, face-wash etc. These products actually made my skin worse, and started to inflame what acne I had.

Then I read up on www.acne.org about people with similar experiences. They solved their skin problems by switching to a 2.5% benzoyl peroxide madication...Neutrogena On-the-spot in particular. It opens up and oxygenates the pores without drying out the skin. The 2.5% medication has been proven to be just as effective as any 10% medication without any of the dryness that comes with the 10%.

Honestly, I used the stuff for literally 2 days before it produced noticeable results. My routine is pretty much just wash with a facial scrub then apply the On-the-spot to any areas that are showing redness or feel like they might have a blemish coming in.

Just an FYI for anyone who has the occasional break-out but hasn't been able to find a satisfactory solution :hs:

just some general tips to help acne prevention:

    - STOP TOUCHING YOUR FACE!

    - change your pillow cases on a regular basis (maybe at least once a week). change your sheets as well and wash your sleep clothes if you have body acne

    - don't wash your face too often. doing so will actually overdry your skin, which will make your skin produce more oil to compensate

    - for those using exfoliants such as St. Ives Peach Scrub, do not use it everyday on your face. maybe use it every 2-3 days

    - do not wash your face with water that's too hot. when you're showering, turn down the heat a bit when you wash your face

    - STOP TOUCHING YOUR FACE!

    - shave! shaving with razors (with shaving cream) helps exfoliate dead skin. this particular tip has been under debate, but i found that it works for me

    fuck yah
i used to have a list as big as him until recently i reduced it

    Morning -
Hot water to open pores - use dove bar soap for face, chest and armpits (gets rid of bacteria). After rinsing, I use cold water on my face and neck. Toner on a cotton pad; use this on my face, neck and chest. Then moisturize if I feel I need it, I say this since I sometimes feel oily one day i might just go without moisturizer; I use BioOil as a moisturizer.

    Night -
Shower - in the shower i wash my face twice, once in the beginning and one as the last thing I do. I use Dove bar soap.

In the shower I use St. Ives apricot scrub every other day, because i usually shave every other day. Use this before my last face wash.

Get out of shower, pat face dry. Shave if needed. Rinse with warm water. Rinse with cold water. Toner on cotton pad, again on the same areas. Moisturizer if needed, usually just a little bit.

    Masks -
I usually use these before my shower:
Either a crushed aspirin mask or Queen Helene Mint Julep mask.

Queen helene mint julep mask I usually give my self a thick coating. wear from 45 minutes to 1 hour and 30 minutes. Get in shower and do my usual routine.
I use this maybe twice a week.
Can be used for spot acne treatments.

    Crushed aspirin Mask -
Aspirin has a similar acid as those acne pads.
I use 4 non coated aspirin with a few drops of water and a squirt of honey.
Apply to face and wear for around 30 minutes. Get in shower and wash off.

I use this maybe 1-2 times a week.

I sometimes tone in the middle of the day if my face is oily. I sometimes use oily hair waxes, that get on my face. So I just get a cotton pad and toner and swab and moisturize if I have to, sparingly applying biooil.

    Blackheads and whiteheads -
Generally people say its bad to use your fingernails to squeeze them out, but fuck them. If you can get yourself a blackhead remover go for it but I havent found one in a store and, for my skin at least, its okay using my fingernails. Use queen helene for this.

    Enlarged Pores -
Use queen helene mint julep. See above.

Blotchy skin, uneven skin tones, scars -
Use a st ives apricot scrub and use biooil. See above.

Milia (White cyst spots around your eyes) -
These are small white dots on your face. They're cysts from blocked pores usually from thick moiturizers. Only good way to get rid of them is to go to a derm to get them pricked and drained, etc. If you try yourself you'll most likely end up with a very visible scar and it will sting.
To prevent it use a designated eye moisturizer.

Dont trust 'acne' soaps or gimmicks etc. Most actually make the situation worse to get you to keep buying the product, or they make them so youre dependent on the product (such as proactiv). Stay clean, reduce touching your face and take care of it, neglecting it for one day can give you a massive breakout.

This was all written while I was on the toilet too :inout:

If youre not getting razor burn or skin irritation I dont see why you should use it

I just put more moisturizer on the shaved area to try and reduce any of that.

Its okay, but I think the queen helene is a lot better. If I were to use the aspirin masks more frequently it might show better results.
