There's a buyer who's all over my SP2022 that I'm trying to sell face-to-face in my local area (Austin). First he wanted me to drive ~1.5 hours to meet him. :ugh: I said no.

Then he wanted to come down this week and buy it in person, but I told him I'm completely booked that day (working a 24hour shift).

So he then said he would come up to my work and buy it from me in my work parking lot. :ugh2: I said no, my (government) employer has a zero-tolerance policy and A.) It'd look really bad...B.) I'd get fired.

So then he offered to send me a money order to hang onto it so he can pick it up at a later date. Before I could respond he asked me if I could meet him in Temple (about an hour from here), I said it was too far! :nono: I specifically mentioned in the ad I wanted to sell it in the Austin area. Not an hour away. So now he wants me to pick a place in the next county away...that'd be about a 30 minute drive. I'm selling it for $380. It retails for $439. Dude is all over it like a lotto ticket. :squint: Sound fishy? I'm a little perturbed, thinking he might not be legal.

    What does OT think?

I wouldnt sell it to him. If someone cant drive to come get it, he should be spending his money on other things.

Just go with your gut feeling. I'm not saying something bad will happen, but any time I've heard a story about a firearm sale gone wrong 100% of the time the seller had a bad feeling about it going into it. If it doesn't feel right, there's a good chance it isn't.

Well if you always have a bad feeling, odds are, you'll be right eventually. :mamoru:

But honestly, doesn't seem that bad. Just tell him when you can meet, if he can't, then tough shit for him.

Just make sure he has all his legit shit to cover your ass. If you want, you could always have a bill of sale/transfer. We got that form here in WA. Meet at a police station or something. :o

Pony up the $$ for my FFL to ship it and its yours, broski. He said it'd be like $40-50.

Edit: Now some other asshat sends me "I live in Dallas can you meet me half-way?". NO. FUCK. Reading comprehension > him.

I had a sketchy sale once. I drove an hour away to meet up with guy that was buying my AR15, the location ended up being a dirt lot under a highway overpass. Definitely thought i was going to get robbed or shot with my own gun  all went well tho

I once had a guy email me about a free fridge I was giving away on Craigslist and he asked (rather rudely) for me to deliver it to his apartment complex 40 fucking miles up the highway when I had explicitly stated that it was for pickup only.

I told him to go have relations with an armadillo and he actually sent me an angry email back, saying he was just trying to be accommodating, etc.

nga, I am giving you a fridge for FREE. Come to my house and get it.

Also, government entities can't prohibit lawfully carried handguns on premises by state law (they may decline to continue your employment, but that's the most that can happen, this zero tolerance is bullshit).

The guy sounds like he has issues. I dunno.

Your FFL fees are that high? It'd be like $50-55 for shipping and...$20 for an FFL? 380 + 50 + 20 = $450, gun retails for $439 :naughty:

Do I want to ask which entity/agency? At the comptroller's office, in the field offices, nobody really gives a shit. They have the standard metal detectors and DPS security at the main office on 17th in the complex though.

EMS. Not so much the station as where we get called to...anywhere/everywhere. Places that CHL holders can't go.

I think you should reiterate to this guy that you specified "local sale" in your ad and that if he can become "local", then he can buy the gun. Otherwise, stop hassling you.

Sounds to me like he just really wanted it, aside from repeatedly contacting you, I didn't read anything fishy about what you said.

That stated, go with your gut. And just because the law doesn't require you to collect ID or the buyer have a permit, etc, doesn't mean you can't set your own terms and insist that your buyer show you a valid drivers license or a permit or some such just so you can verify he is legit.
