I am interested in building a web site for just personal stuff nothing big. I was wondering what are some of the best/simplest building tools that I can use to help a new guy out?

do you mean for hosting the site or actually building it...

the only WSIWIG editor that I ever use is www.nvu.com otherwise a text editor of your choice is a better option

Dreamweaver seems to be a pretty popular designer. I'm a strict manual html editor myself, so i wouldn't know what's the best. I hear FrontPage is crap.

Both frontpage and dreamweaver cost money (not that its a bad thing) and dont create standards compliant code.

NVU will make xhtml is css if you want it too and it will all validate through a checker.

I hate WSIWIGs but if I were going to use one that is the only one I would ever use.
