Was back home this weekend and my sister and her fiance wanted me to do some engagement pictures, and if they like mine they are going to pass on their wedding photographers and save the $300-500.

We went downtown to do some, and planned to go do some more in another location, but it was on/off rain and very cold, so we decided to put the rest off to another day.

    Here are a few:

I know the weather wasn't perfect in some of them, but they all seem dreary. Maybe it's white balance or something. They don't seem underexposed.

I love #15. It's your most creative shot in the group. I like to see the detail shots along with the wide, environmental shots.

can someone tell me what engagement shots are for?

I'm guessing it's to remember the days/moments before they are both officially married?

i always try to ask my subjects to wear colors like black, gray or white. nothing too flashy or showy. because when you look back at the pictures 20 years from now, everything will look dated.

Yeah, just to have pictures from the same time period they got married in less formal clothes, more relaxed and fun.

I disagree, I'd rather wear something I like so I can look back and see what I was really like.
