want to get a laptop, have the money now. going to go with the 15" 2.4ghz MBP.

i'm not really interested in any new features, but rather a price drop.

i'm just afraid they'll drop the prices tomorrow if i order today. and if i order tomorrow, i'm afraid they'll drop them the day after. etc...

reassure me that i'm making the right choice, macshack

NO! Like I said in the other thread, Apple never announced updates to products until they are pretty much readily available. Intel probably isn't ready to put Penryn processors into the MBP yet so they haven't announced it yet. I would say it's almost 100% chance that an update will happen by the back to school push (most laptops sold around that time), so hold off.

we just started class again for this semester on monday. if it hasn't dropped for school reasons for this semester yet, why would it i a couple of weeks?

are you talking about waiting until fall? i've been waiting since october to get one, not really looking to wait that long.

what's so great about penryn anyway?

lol eWRX I feel your pain so bad... I've been waiting since macworld expecting some updates... but I'm really fucking pissed now. When I saw the end of the keynote I was speechless at what a joke it was...

i just bit the bullet and ordered one.

if the penryn ones are so much better, i'll sell this one and put the money towards one of those. something tells me that i'll live either way.

Apple aren't going to update without changing processors.

Penryn processors were just announced for the current (Santa Rosa) platform last week. So maybe Apple will offer them in the comming weeks. There aren't really any major benefits though.

The next major update to notebooks is in May/June when Montevina is set to be released. I could easily see Apple waiting for this before doing anything.

Basically if you buy now the only thing you are likely to be missing out on anytime soon is a small processor performance increase.

Nah, it should be around May or June because in retail, basically the entire summer is back to school. A lot of people get them as graduation gifts in high school to get for college.

Penryrn should offer better processing speeds and battery life. I doubt they'll put the quad-core ones in the MBP's but I would hope they take care of this soon.

I'm going to go try out the trackpad in a store, then figure out if it's worth waiting for a powerbook with it or not.

I wish they at least pricedropped the MBPs. :(

If the new trackpad is everything it's supposed to be I'll wait, I was hoping for either a speed bump or a price drop today.
