Just bought the Onkyo HT-S770B after WEEKS of waiting and waiting for money. It was like Christmas day on Wednesday. :) The system is just amazing. I watched Matrix Reloaded after I hooked up my DVD player with an optical cable and made sure the receiver was in Dolby Digital EX mode. I had the system cranked upto 60, near max, and there was NO distortion at all.

    1000 watts!!

    Killer! It's HUGE!!! :naughty:

I still need 16g wiring for the surrounds. I just bought some nice Monster standard 16g speaker wiring and it sounds a tad better, the receiver also seems to run a little cooler.

I'd say that you're imagining that the reciever runs cooler with 16awg wire. The less resistance, the more current flow, and the more heat. That is of course assuming that the wire it came with is really thin. ;)

The stock wire that came with the system is THIN! I think it's 22g wiring.

I'm not saying you shouldnt have upgraded, I'm just saying that the new wire making the reciever run cooler doesnt make any sense :dunno:

I just got that same system and its 100X's better that nwhat i had. the bass is excellent with no distortion and the surrounds work great. ive got some 16 g wire to run the speakers with just havent had time to wire it up like i want.

im using optical cable fpr the sound from the dvd and component for the picture. i have direct tv but its a very basic box and just uses regular coax cables. anyone know if direct tv has a box that uses component/optical ? or do they just have the high defintion type? is it worth the money? im using a sony 36in hd tv so i can run the high def. from the reciever if i get it.

any ideas/suggestions for improvements are welcome.

$499 originally, then a week later it dropped to $424 and I got a hefty $80 back from CC from their 110% pricematch guarantee. :coolugh:
