how do you change the icons on the desktop to the list view?

trying to clean up the desktop a little and i saw a picture of a desktop with them in list form and thought it'd be a pretty good way to do this.

First, there is no such thing as list view for desktop icons.

If you want them to auto-arrange in rows starting at the left of the
    screen, then:

Right click the desktop > Arrange icons by > Auto arrange.

Put the .exe in the start folder.

I put the destop into the taskbar myself - saves me having to minimize everything to get to it. If I end up with too many items on the desktop that I need to scroll the list, then I know I have too much shit on my desktop.

This is a very handy program. I've been using it for quite some time. There's usually a resurgence of it whenever there's a "Post your desktop" thread in the main forum.

Right-click-and-drag the file into the Startup folder, then when it pops up a menu asking you what to do with it, tell it to make a shortcut.
