    Moving to S.V. today - got a job as a data platform visualization engineer, to crunch on many terabytes/even petabytes of data and make it more accessible to management types... pretty much what I do for fun :big grin:

    Palo Alto big leagues, here I come :bigthumb:

    Worked on hard shit for 9 hours today. Got home, have no desire to work on the computer. That never happens. Its so nice.

    honestly, I hope I'm wrong. but I know way too many people who turned a "hobby" into a career and ended up regretting it.

    I'm not sure you get it - I've been tanking startups to work on cool shit for five years. Thats not a hobby. Now I'm in a more stable startup, about 150 people, and get paid well to do what I love.

    Private Industry: Name Brand Startup.

    As to database apps: no. That sounds like relational DBs and CRUD. I made charts from hadoop :)
