I just ordered a Tamron SP AF28-75/2.8 XR Di LD to replace my Canon kit lens and now thinking of my next lens to replace my Canon EF 75-300mm f/4.0-5.6 III.

I have been seeing good reviews on the Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8 EX DG APO HSM (B&H $789.00), as in it takes just as sharp of a pic that the Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L USM (B&H $1139.95) does and the same focus speed. Is the Sigma a good lens and is it worth saving $350.00 of the Canon L? The Sigma seem to be more compact and not as long as the Canon too.

I actually like having a black lens on a black camera also.

The Sigma 70-200 is one of Sigmas better lenses. If that $350 means a lot to you then get the Sigma, if not so much then get the Canon.

Maybe I will just wait and get the Canon. I have been wondering why they don't offer it in black and find out the longer lenses can get hotter in sunlight and could expand. They find a white lens stays cooler and looks more expensive.

Just to clarify, the Sigma is about as sharp as the Canon, but it's not as fast when it comes to focusing.

Lenses itself don't expand. The fluorite element inside of them does.

I wouldnt worry much about the expanding stuff, but I would go for the Canon one, I have read plenty of reports of users of the sigma getting bad units, I personally wouldn't like to buy an over 1k lens only to have to return it as soon as I bought it.

    100-300mm f/4 is fucking gorgeous.
I wish I had gotten it instead of the 70-200mm f/2.8.
    Wanna trade?

If you got the Canon, you'll probably use it for several years, if not longer. It'll be something you'll value over an extended period of time unless you switch to a different brand. But, on the bright side, the resale value is pretty damn good on the L lenses.

I actually do have money, and yet I didn't. 70-200 IS isn't the right lens for me. :)
