    Hey,

What do you guys think of this lens?

Sigma 28-200mm f3.8-5.6 UC Aspherical zoom lens for Minolta AF

Seemed like a good deal, and I wanted a versatile light lens for travelling so that I won't have to switch between my 28-85mm, and 75-300mm.

I think its an older model though, so its not as good as the newer version (the new one is 62mm filter size, this one is 72mm).

its a winner, you'll never have to switch lenses again.

nothing like converting a slr into a point and shoot :coold:

too wide of a spectrum...get better glass (70-300 & 24-70) or something similar. sucks changing lenses but if your photos matter, its very little effort

You guys were right. I just did some comparison shots at 28mm, 50mm, 85mm, and 200mm.

The pictures from my minolta lenses (28-85mm, and 75-300mm) were noticeably better and sharper. The colours were more vibrant also.

I guess I'll have to deal with the hassle of switching lenses. It just that I'm heading to Asia for a month, and I wasn't sure if I want to pack all my camera stuff (even though I just bought a lowepro computrekker). The 28-200 seemed like a good way to lessen the load, but I guess I'll have to bring the better lenses.

some pics for comparison...i resized them to 800x531

BTW, both minolta lenses had UV filters, but I dont have a UV filter for the sigma yet....I wonder if that makes any difference? Because it seems like in general, the pics taken with the sigma are slightly lighter

You know, this is what I hate about photography forums, since the coming of digital photography, it's ALWAYS about the stupid equipment and comparisons and shit like that. NEVER about the photos. Go shoot, try to be creative, come back and post what you have! Who cares what you used to do it.

Edit: Sorry for the rant, I'm not pointing fingers, just trying to make a point. There should be a separate forum for the art and equipment chat because some people love the equipment more than shooting.

Sorry, I just wanted to make sure that when I come back from Asia, I can't blame my crappy vacation pics on a crappy lens :hsd:
