Well I was at the range today playin' round with the glock when I decided to try out my remy 700 I just bought at the pawn shop.

So I happened to have a box of 30-06 150gr jsut lying around..... well as it turns out, both the scope and iron sites are WAAAAYY off. First at 100 yards, and then at a messily 25 yards.

Is there a textbook way to sight in a rifle?

If you don't have a bore sighter you put the rifle in a solid rest (bags, whatever), remove the bolt, and line the rifle up with an object that is around 100yds away by sighting down the bore and adjusting the rifle. Then without moving the rifle line the scope up on the same object. This will put you on the paper at 25yds :dunno:

Also remember that at 25yds 1 click on a scople with 1/4 MOA adjustments moves the crosshair 1/16 MOA so 4 clicks is a 1/4, 8 is 1/2, etc.

nope, it still is 1/4 MOA, is just moves the POI less at the closer range.

I always start at a close range, using a easy to see if its been hit target. and easy to see the background, hit it with a shot and simply adjust from there, hit it again and repeat. As needed I replace the target when there are too many holes in to too keep track, then I move the target further out and repeat. Laser bore sights work well too, but on a bright sunny day it can be difficult to see.
