I've been using a mac for a long fucking time. I've not once touched safari except every time they update the stupid crap and fail to bring what I feel should be brought
    • True TABBED browsing. Oh yes, Safari does have it, but it will not 100% always use it. Ever open a pop up link? It open a new tab what bullshit is this? The only time it should ever NOT open in a new tab is if the code is specifically telling javascript to pop open a new window with size restraints
    • Plugins? Themes? Anything to customize please. I need and use about 5-6 firefox plugins on a regular basis at work and home. While you can mod up safari it isn't easy and there's nothing out there currently to really do it with
    • Support for web standards. Every time I ever used Safari I'd always run into some site with shitastic rendering. The text off the screen or on some image, oh and this wasn't the site it's Safari, open it with IE, FF, Opera, Camino, Netscape, AOL it's fine.
    • Text Rendering / Text Size, it's one of those things I can never understand because it's so simple for it to just freaking work. No I don't use AntiAlias text on anything under 10pt else you can't see it. But more times than not everything in Safari tends to be like 1-2pt smaller than it should or just completely unreadable when you have Anti Alias turned off. It's fine in any other browser.
There are some things I do LOVE about Safari, the whole all the way to edges viewing, immediate rendering of the page, some UI stuff. It's great, but it is missing it's nicks and nacks like anything.

Stop bashing PC users that come over with IE. It's annoying, it's disgusting and it's just plain stupid.

It's like officially turning every "I just got a mac" thread into shit.

for me its the lack of a popup blocker that can be customized to allow them from certain sites while still blocking everything else.

That and the plugins on FF are nice to have.

It's unfortunate others can't share your same opinion.

If this is directed to me, I've never blasted users for using Firefox...you must be reading into what I say the wrong way or something. I've continued to say, use whatever you want, i don't care.

But I have said and will continue to say that Firefox on the mac isn't the same as firefox on the PC, and even the firefox development team has acknowledged that firefox for the mac is clunky. you're not going to get the same experience as you get on the pc.

In the PC market you basically have 3 options, IE (which sucks), Firefox (pretty good), Opera (pretty good). So the the PC thinking seems to come into play with new users. Safari sucks because it's a built in with the OS, so it must be like IE. I don't like Opera, so I'll use Firefox. You even say that you haven't used Safari because you use Firefox. you haven't even given it a shot. On the mac side though, you have browsers like Safari, Camino, Shirii and a few others which are optimized for OSX. but hey, Firefox got the job done in windows land, so it'll work the same in OSX land...which it doesn't.

That's the whole point of everything I've said. I could careless about what browser you use, but to be clear, new users to the mac always start with Firefox without giving the built in browser a try, or one of the browsers optimized for OSX. But whatever floats your boat, i personally don't care.

Not just you I've just seen a few threads get clobber gayed by this topic. Everyone has their own preference. I know firefox on a mac is really clunky ( actually I despise its shitty slowless ) but when it mimics EXACTLY what I have to have at work to worth with it works nice. I use a mix of Safari and FireFox I've given Safari tons of opportunities and still use it when I can but the second something goes wrong, yes, firefox gets launched. I didn't know about others tho and im gonna go check it out :)

two things keep me on firefox:

    1. ability to choose sites to allow to have popups
    2. syncing bookmarks, history, passwords, etc. between computers

if someone can show me another browser that does both of those and has good adblocking, then i would gladly try something else out

Try Camino, it's like Firefox it's based off the Mozilla engine, without extensions, but optimized for OSX...

Who gives a fuck? I mean honestly, I haven't seen an ad on the internet in almost a year and you want me to give a fuck about cocoa. When Safari gets the add-ons that Firefox has I may use it, and not a moment before?

My two primary complaints with Safari are that, even with Safari 3.0 Beta, it still doesn't work quite right with Yahoo Mail Beta.

...and I'm highly dependent on being able to save and restore sessions (all the windows and tabs that were open when the browser was shut down last) since i always have at least three windows with a couple dozen tabs open in each any time my browser is open. Safari now has some session restore capability, but I prefer being able to save my session at any time just to be safe instead. Losing good URL's while surfing makes me sad.

Aside from those two things, I actually like Safari.

That being said, I use Flock 99% of the time on all my machines...and it's based on Firefox...though that's not why I use it.

My MBP has the following browsers on it...

    Safari 3.0 Beta
    Internet Explorer :mamoru:
    Firefox
    Flock
    Opera
    Camino
    GranParadiso
    iPhoney
    OmniWeb
    Shiira
    iCab :wiggle:

    Lots of options out there.

Not only the ability to sync bookmarks across different machines, but the fact that you can copy your profile folder from computer to computer, even with different OS's and it retains your layouts, bookmark bar, extensions etc. The only glitch i've seen doing this is some themes for ff are only for os x so you use a differnent theme on your windows or linux boxes and bob's your uncle :bigthumb:

I don't use Safari because when I click a link, I want it to open in a new tab without me having to right click.

That's pretty much the only reason why I dont use it :o

meh, everything people like about firefox is in opera, opera did it first, opera does it better, and there's no memory leak with opera.

Honestly, I don't see why people do the huge sackriding that they do for firefox.

this is prolly a noob question, but is there a way to get a "home" button in safari?, it's my only gripe about it
