Question: You and 4 friends are arming yourselves for a Shit hit the Fan moment, i.e., Economic crash, Race war, Class war, Zombie invasion, whatever....what types, models, and number of said weapons would you want. What considerations would you put into weapon selection and why?
I'll give you our current armory and see what you think should be changed:
    M1 Garand
M1A Loaded with bipod and 6x scope
    M4
    1903 springfield w/ 3-9x scope
    Remington 700 bdl 30-06 w/ 4-12x scope and bipod
    1911
    Glock 23
    Walther p99
    Sig p229
    Remington 870 express
    Mossberg 500
that's the starting stock...what would you add and why what would you sell and why? Just wondering others thoughts, we've debated this to death over many drinks.

Don't see any .22's in there. A scoped .22 rifle and a good Buckmark or Ruger MkII, along with 5K ammo & some squirrel & rabbit stew recipes will keep you and your squad fed for a long time.

seems like you have alot of rifles.

do you really need an M1 garand, and an M1A, and an M4, and a 1903, and a remington 700?

You have multiple rilfes that do the same thing.

I would only keep the M4 and remington 700.

Five guys total... picking from the guns you posted,

    Guy #1

    M1A
    1911
    Ruger 10/22

    Guy #2

    M1A
    1911
    Ruger 10/22

    Guy #3

    M1A (short scout model)
    1911
    Mossberg 500

    Guy #4

    M4
    1911
    Mossberg 500

    Guy #5

    20" scoped AR15
    1911
    Mossberg 500

Lots of medium- to long-range firepower. Long distances can be reached by the 2 full-length M1A's, medium can be handled by all the M1A's and the AR-15, and close range can be handled by the M4 and shotguns. But close-range fighting with anything is to be avoided. Identical pistols for everyone.

Every weapon carried except the 1911's has good hunting value. Don't forget lots of mags and ammo, along with all the other gear :naughty:

Obviously price is an issue when arming a militia..
    ------
well, you're going to need a long range highly accurate rifle..

So a few .308 bolt actions would do, surplus ammo is cheap, lots of it around.

I'll go with used rem 700's, or new savage 110/111's, in 308

Sidearms, 9mm.. Star BM 9mm.. cheap, reliable gun, ammo is also cheap and easy to come by. you can buy about 5 of them for the price of one HK USP.

General troops rifle: Bushmaster XM-15. Reliable ar-15, uses .223 which can be found for cheap, surplus ammo available, lots of parts for ar-15's available, and I'll assume were fighting in the US, so dirt and what not wont be too big of a concern for jamming. If I was in the middle east, or in a more deserty terrain, id be sure to have some ak's on hand.

Extra close range guns, misc. usage:

    remington 870 12 guage
beretta storm 9mm (share ammo with sidearm)

So I would have at least one of each gun for every person, plus an extra AR and an extra 9mm, just in case.

  7. I have been thinking of doing the same.:bigthumb:

For zombies all you really need is a bunch of friends that are slower than you

...and an open sight .22 with a REALLY big mag. Don't want a scoped gun when one sneaks up on you ;)

Well with 5 guys I'm not taking on anyone. Survive by avoiding fights, or fire a couple of shots at distance to keep them down long enough to get away. The 10/22s are for hunting.

5 guys fighting any type of organized force are dead if they try any type of prolonged engagement. M4 or not.

    Shotgun: Just cause

Pistol: something in either 9mm or .40, the two most available calibers when looting stores.

One .308 but the rest should be .223.

Ever try to carry a case of .308 vs. a case of .223?

Just because I'm new here doesn't mean I don't know the weight difference between .223 and .308 :slap:

The idea is to avoid any type of drawn out engagement with our small group. Carrying 100 rounds of .308 or 300 rounds of .223 makes no difference.

I would only have one shotgun, an 870 for parts interchangability.

And I agree, stay out of action if at all possible.
