Specifically bullet proof vests. I know that they are going to be expensive, but considering that when the next big earthquake hits CA, people are going to probably start moving into the central valley, I figure I better look into it.

Be very careful with what armor you buy, there's alot of crap on the market. I'd suggest heavy reading at tactical forums ballistics section.

If someone were going to give me a free vest I' get a piece of us armor enforcer classic in 2a so I would have relatively concealed under clothing protection from most handgun rounds.

http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/MOLLE135-44931-1977.html ...thats the link for the plate carriers. I got mine for a little cheaper than that but 50 bucks is pretty damn good. I got 10''x10'' steel plates at 1/2 inch thick. Each plate cost me about 14 bucks. Plates do tend to get heavy.

Once you get the plate carrier you can take it to the steelmill and try out plates there. They can either custom cut a plate for you or you can pic out from their precut stack.

Do not get anything less than 1/2inch thick. A .223 will only penetrate an armor plate that is 1/2inch thick only if it is Armor piercing. Any handgun caliber and shotgun slug will just flatten out on the plate. I havent tried any 30 cals yet but will soon.

In reality, you most probably wont be needing a bulletproof vest. But its always good to have one. 1/2inch plates get heavy and they will slow you down so only put it on when you really need it F.E riot, civil war, border patrol, home invasion, natural disaster, etc etc

I don't plan on this being concealable, but JUST steel plates, no thanks.
