Post a screen of your LR folder list. Mine is out of control and I need a better way to organize it.

How do you organize your folders?

each year has its own catalog

    folders 1-12 in each catalog

specific events have their own folder inside each month

date MMDDYYYY is in the folder name

I keep thirty or so catalogs in my pictures folder. When I'm finished with a job, it gets moved to my backup HD. Paid gigs all have the date in the title. I need to get a bit more organized like ace3.

if i were doing paid gigs, i'd have a catalog for each event, for sure. then back 'em up like you do.

since i don't do that kind of stuff, this works much easier

the only problem with folders named after the months, is that it's not in numerical order anymore ... 01, 02, 03, etc will keep it all in order, other than scrolling near the top for "December"

    are you keywording?

I can't see trying to find, say nature shots, and looking through all the various folders trying to remember all the dates you shot something :hs:

Just come up with a simple job numbering system.

When you go take pics of your badass car on the weekend, assign it a job number, followed by some sort of easy abbreviation to find it faster. even if its just a hobby or for fun, it will help you keep track of shit

    IE:

    car pics: AU
    baby pics: BP
    nude pics: PN

    etc.

    Then,

    1023_AU_SubaruSTi
    1024_AU_Ford150
    1025_BP_JohnSmithDaughter
    1026_AU_FordGalaxy1966
    1027_PN_AmyReidIndoorShoot

    etc..

keywording sometimes, but i'm usually pretty descriptive in my folder naming.

i can always remember what year i took a picture (if it was in the last 2-3 years), but can only usually remember if there was snow on the ground when i took it ... i have to look around for what month i took the pics.

usually it's not that big of a deal

I also organize by event or venue names. I don't think in terms of 'when' I shot something, the 'who, what, where' comes much more naturally to me.
