Interesting thing I found while reading up on today's attack in Israel.

    From http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080306/ap_on_re_mi_ea/israel_palestinians

To be honest, after the VT massacre I actually carried my Glock 27 in my backpack to school for about a week before the fear of getting caught forced me to leave it at home. This article perfectly points out how an armed populace can limit the damage a crazed attacker can cause.

Imagine how many more he could have killed if his victims were all unarmed?

I'll post the same story in the main forum and see what happens...

Yes. If you look at crime stats, a college campus is usually one of the more dangerous places you can visit. It's even more important for women, due to the rapes and sex crimes.

And another example of why I find the realtive modern creation of "unbiased" journalism disturbing. I like that biased used to be acknowledged and embraced. The democratic news source was called the "Nowheresville Democrat" and didn't try to parade itself as the biased source of news.

I work on a university campus, and we recently had about panic buttons being installed in classrooms to alert Public Safety. They said their average response time to a classroom on our relatively small campus is fifteen minutes. To me, that's unacceptable.

Provided they follow the law, which in KY requires a permit for concealed carry and allows for open carry without a permit, students should absolutely be allowed to arm themselves. The simple fact is that large numbers of people voluntarily disarm themselves to congregate on college campuses, and Public Safety falls tragically short of protecting them.

And if that isn't bad enough we also have to remember that there isn't a response time fast enough when you need help immediately. Even in the recent St. Louis shooting the police were already on the scene, they were simply the first 2 people the gunman killed.

How often do you feel unsafe?

 Lets apply this logic to other things.

:ugh2: Sorry, I forgot that having a fire extinguisher makes you "safer" and your ego bigger.

:ugh2: Sorry, I forgot that having house insurance makes you "safer" and your ego bigger.

:ugh2: Sorry, I forgot that wearing a seat belt makes you "safer" and your ego bigger.

Isn't it strange how a small non-intrusive precaution against a low probability but still devestating event is just plain smart sometimes but then for some reason turns into unspeakable lunacy?

I think the only mental condition in thread isn't paranoia but the delusion that no one could ever attack you. That would just be unthinkable.

I feel unsafe very rarely. But it's about not knowing when anything bad will happen to you.

I'm not saying that it's unthinkable that I won't be attacked. The probability of a needing a gun on a college campus is slim. You can rant about all the shootings and what not but they are the extreme scenario.
Most college crimes are minor, theft, etc...

Also, 90% of the students on college campuses aren't there to attack someone.
