Some of my friends say I should just focus on cardio and diet and don't lift because I would like to lose 15-20 pounds. My other friends say I should continue lifting and try to loose weight. Will lifting make me loose weight slower?

    Stickes.

And, why would doing more work not help you lose weight? The only way i can see that weight lifting would lower your weight loss is by adding more muscle...which makes no sense. Don't you want some muscles anyways?

Lifting won't make you lose fat any slower, but it's hard to get good gains when you aren't eating at a caloric surplus.

There is no reason why you cannot do both at the same time. You will not, however, put on as much muscle or loose as much weight as you would if you were to focus on one at a time. To build muscle you need higher caloric intake than your maintenance amount which is exactly the opposite that you would be doing if you were trying to loose weight.

I got a friend who is trying to lose weight. He gained 5 lbs which I am fairly sure is muscle since he has never lifted hard before but he got embarassed and paranoid.

    Probably water weight :eek4:

I always gain about 5 pounds when I'm weak for a while then jump right back into heavy lifting or cardio because of all the water I drink. It's discouraging when trying to lose weight :hs:

Are you trying to lose weight or fat?

and lifting is great when trying to lose fat. why you wouldn't continue lifting is beyond my comprehension.
