So I leave this Friday with my family to Disney World. I have been debating on weather or not I should bring my 70-200 f28 IS lens with me. I am not really going sightseeing. I have no problem bringing it onto the plane, it is carrying it all day in a place that probably has a very high rate of stealing. Of course I will be sure to be by it at all times though. I wont leave it at the hotel unless I get it locked simply cause I dont want it to go missing.

I am torn on this cause I dont know if I really would need it but if we end up going someplace that is a show type thing (like the Shamoo show at sea world) I will wish I had it. I will have my 18-200 lens which I really hate but for now it is what I have, so I iwll have the reach, I just wont have the sweetness of high quality glass.

    tough call...

But to be honest, i've learned that family vacations are typically the worst photo expeditions...

Personally, i'd bring something small and reasonably wide for family/memory shots, and focus on having fun instead of capturing an awesome picture that doesn't really exist...

there's NOTHING at disney that requires the reach of that lens.

and as he'll have the 18-200 i'd just take that and leave it on the camera all the time.

If it were me I'd stick my wife's Nikon Coolpic in my shirt pocket and call it a day.

When I go on vacation, it's highly unlikely that I'd ever shoot a pic that I would use elsewhere. It doesn't make sense to carry all my good gear.

I think I am going to just keep it at home then. And I am prolly going to just stick on the 18-200 and leave it on. I will be getting something better in the wide end of town in the next few months though and get rid of this lens. I am also taking the grip off so it is easier to lug around. I can stick a battery or 2 and some CF cards in my kids diaper bag

this is cause you have you have your camera gear for people to pay you to use. I have mine for vacations and taking pics of mainly my family. and by mainly, I mean only:hsd:

pocket cam or nothing at all. I wouldn't bring an slr much less a 70-200 f2.8
Time with the family is precious. Pocket cam will suffice.

I took my old D40 and 18-135 to Disney World. I don't regret it in the slightest.

No, don't take it. You won't use it and you'll wish you hadn't if you do.

As many others have said, just take a P&S and call it a day.

i just got back from disney world this morning, and i have NEVER seen so many d40/60's and rebel cameras with kit lenses in my life.

i would take it with you, but leave it in the hotel unless you are going to see a show. i just took my 30d and 17-50 and was fine, hell, 90% of the pictures i took were just snapshots with my fuji f10. if you go to animal kingdom and go on the safari, take the 70-200 with you, the 17-50 just wasn't anywhere near long enough for that.
