Over a year on this install. Lots of accumulated crap.

My only hang ups are my iTunes library and Aperture library. Can I just copy both of those to an external and be good to go?

Do you want to do it tonight?
    If yes, do it.
    If no, don't.

Remember to de-auth your itunes before you wipe it clean - or you'll lose an activation.

You get one reset per year. i.e. it clears all your auths with apple and you can start over. I had to use mine once because my laptop hdd died, then I did a few clean install of windows and kept forgetting to de-auth.

    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93014

To deauthorize all computers associated with your account:
    1. Click iTunes Store in the Source pane.
    2. If you're not signed in to the store, click the Account button, then enter your account name and password.
    3. Click the Account button again (your ID appears on the button), enter your password, and then click View Account.
    4. In the Account Information window, click Deauthorize All.
