t56 is strong. you will need new clutch/hydrolics. you WILL. unless you drive the car like a pussy. the rear end will be fine unless you launch on anything more then nittos. and wven with nittos, be carefull. the engine has nothing to worry about as long as it doesnt have oil consumption. and even then, thats not THAT big of a deal.

Ok stop right there. I broke my 10bolt in my 3rd ls1 with bfg kdw's on the street. You don't need nittos to break the rear. There are a shitload of things you need to look for in the motor also. Heres a list of what I would look for after owning 4ls1's and the last one being a turbo car.

    Do a compression test
Check plugs, make sure the car hasn't been sprayed ( usually the tip will be white(this also goes for detonation)) If the tip is black the car has been running pig rich.
If you hear ticking its either piston slap or a bent pushrod
If they have a dyno chart ask to see it, look for valve float
If the car has been sprayed stay away
Make sure the tranny goes through the motions more than once. 3rd gear synchonizers in those cars go out all the time
Don't be too concerned about the clutch as the stocker is junk anyways
Check for rubber under the fenderwells
Come to a dead stop from 40mph, you will be able to tell if the car has warped rotos. The majority of ls1's have shit rotors.
If you need more info hit me up on aol IM.

as long as it's stock or close to stock, you shouldn't have to worry about anything for a while. The T56 problems are exagerated, but they did tend to eat the 3rd gear synchro on a few units. The rear will hold up fine as long as you don't use slicks, or power adders. As far as the engine goes, it's rock solid. A few people reported some oil consuption, but that was largely due to the PCV setup, wich can be modified to correct the problem and costs next to nothing. Good places to look for tech info is ls1tech.com and camaroz28.com

The keyword you fail to understand is correctly. The MAJORITY of people do not use it correctly via tuning with edit or by pilling up for more fuel. Most run dry kits. You shouldn't have assloads of rubber in your fender wells unless your coming back from the track and even the smart people use a compound on their fender wells to keep rubber from sticking. Buying a car that has not been treated well is a waste.

educate yourself, then reply. T56 is as solid as a tranny as you'll find in a factory car, period.
