I saw the Wanted movie first... and was able to enjoy the movie without picking it apart as a comic book nerd. Then I read the book the night I saw it and liked them equally, although the book was a little overrated. :o

Having not read the book, I can go into the movie with lower expectations :embd:

Yes, Watchmen is awesome and you shouldn't have to wait until the movie comes out to enjoy it.

they're not going to top the book, i don't care how awesome of a job he did re-creating someone like frank miller's book, topping alan moore is doubtful.

No way they top the comic story.

If it didn't have pictures, I'd say watch the movie first.

The book is always better than the movie in any case, just because your own imagination is more intense and personal than any movie.

Comics, who knows, they limit your imagination to a certain degree because they take certain elements away from your own imagination of a story. But then again, they also force you to play out what happens between the panels.

I'd say that some aspects of the movie will be cooler-looking, like some of the costumes, and the Nite-Owl's ship, but no way will Rorschach or Dr. Manhattan be as good as the book. If they are, then my god, it'll be one of the best movies ever. But I just don't see things like the personalities translating well to the screen. Dr. Manhattan's arrogance, the way he's above everyone, I just don't see it translating. I wanna say something about Rorschach, but it's indefinable, whatever quality he's got that makes me love his character, I just don't think they can duplicate it.

Read Watchmen, then don't go see the movie. No way in hell they manage to do the book justice, even with a three and a half hour movie.

But there's going to be a full length Watchmen trailer before The Dark Knight, so I'm sure we'll all see it this weekend :coold:

oooooh, this is just wrong. off the top of my head i can assure you that Forrest Gump and Howl's Moving Castle were better movies than they were books.

I say yes, read it. No way they can pack all the little details into the movie, but honestly I think they are going to do a damn good job of getting as many in as they can. Without reading the book, you just won't get to enjoy all those quick, awesome references that made the graphic novel so legendary.

I'd absolutely recommend reading it first. It's extremely well written and the art is awesome too. One of the best comics I've ever read, probably one of the best books period that I've read lol.

The Watchmen movie will at best be a decent adaptation, but it's impossible that all the layers of the text for carry over to any film no matter how faithful.
