Even though my back has been fucked up for several months? I hurt it in December or somewhere around there, took some time off, rehurt it, worked around it, and so on. I took the last month off and it still hurts. Would it be stupid to join a powerlifting gym or would they be able to help me work around it without reinjurying it while still getting stronger?

wait til you are healthy. PLing in itself isnt a very healthy sport - you'd be better off starting 100% and adding in extra work to stay healthy

back is critical for a big bench, pull, and squat.

If you are talking about detroit barbell, they have guys who have had back troubles as well and can get you on the right track to getting healthy again

yep, Detroit Barbell. I went to the doctor a month and a half ago or so and had x-rays done and they said nothing showed up so it must be soft tissue. Maybe I'll go in and talk to Clay and see what he thinks.

that's kind of how i've been thinking about it. I really want to lift there to get stronger, but I'd rather not make my back even worse.

the experience you'd get at DBB is something you can't put a price on. you will learn so much and you will get so strong. I can't fucking wait to get down to Southside this summer for the same reason

you think 3 months will make that huge of a difference? i would be able to lift there for the summer then go back up to school. once i'm done with school next semester i'll be able to lift there again.

well, i went to detroit barbell last night to check it out and talk to Clay. i ended up lifting with them. a few people were doing DE bench and some were doing ME bench and Clay just wanted to see where I was at in terms of strength so he was having me do whatever. i definitely lost some strength and endurance being off for a month. i was also an idiot and had pretty much zero carbs the entire day so i didn't have much energy going in. i did some warm up stuff and then he had me do some singles and triples. the most i'd ever done before yesterday was 250 and he had me go for 255. I got it about 6 inches off my chest and couldn't get it up from there. then he had me go for a triple at 225 and i only got 2.:ugh: Then he had me doing military press, skull crushers, and pushdowns.

It was definitely really humbling lifting with them. Their intensity is awesome and I can see it being a really good environment to lift in. Saturday is DE Squat day and i'm excited as hell for it.

good thing about working out with powerlifters is they get hurt alot and know what to do about it. see if theres any ART providers in your area if its soft tissue damage and try doing some reverse hypers

i fucked it up sometime in December and gave it a little rest, fucked it up again, rested, went to the doctor and it was an intern of sorts. he said it was a lumbar strain and i should just do some stretches and give it some more time off. i gave it more time off and then fucked it up again, gave it more time off and went to the doctor again. this time the doctor had x-rays done and said that there was nothing out of the ordinary so it must be something soft tissue. i took a month off and that's where i'm at now. i've noticed that everytime it fucks up it seems to be when i glance up while squatting or another exercise involving lower body. i'm pretty sure i injured it deadlifting and it's aggravated when i squat. i haven't deadlifted since the first or second time i injured it, so i'm not sure how much deadlifting aggravates it at this point.

if my stride was interrupted or i stepped funny the first time i injured it my lower back had a shooting pain through it.

cliffs: most likely a lumbar strain. it's painful as hell right when it happens and for the next day or two it hurts, but after that it's not too bad.
