I'll save you all a super long story and try to get right to it.

1994-1995, I had a girlfriend in high school. Fell deeply in love and was ready to die for her. Her parents moved her 1000 miles away and we kind of ended on a bad note. We never really talked again since.

I never got over her and felt my life would never be complete without her again.

14 years later, we are talking again out of nowhere. I can tell there is a connection still. We both are single parents and still have many things in common. However, we have our own lives, families and careers 1000 miles apart.

It sounds like she wants me to go see her. I want to see her too.

Obviously we can tell there is a connection still but don't want to set each other up for failure due to the long distance w/ kids circumstances.

Keep in mind, my last 14 years have had a void in my life due to never being able to reconcile our differences and letting each other know our true feelings.

NOW she knows my true feelings after exchanging several long emails back and forth over the last week and talking on the phone for hours like we were teenagers again.

    What do I do?
Fly out there for the weekend to see if there is a spark still?
Leave it alone and don't cause more heartache?
    Keep it strictly friendly?

I need some advice please. Anyone else been down this road before?

It's something you have to make a call on yourself. Cotton Mouth has said it well, the past is the past and memories are best kept as memories. However, it's been 14 years and I have no doubt you know that you both have changed as individuals. As long as you can tell that you've changed as an individual and she has too, I'd tell you to try it out. Think carefully before you do, because you're setting yourself up for potential failure. And even if things are great when you see each other, how are you going to make it work afterwards? There are a lot of things to consider.

I'd go. You really have nothing to lose by visiting. At worst you get some fantastic sex, at best you reconnect and get together. Just make sure you see her for the woman she is TODAY and not the girl you knew 14 years ago.

i was in the exact same position as you, high school sweet heart, moved due to parents, got nasty after that.....
i wish i could go see her still and it has been three or four years... do it.

A friend of mine was in the same situation. He ended up going to meet her, said they had a great time, but they haven't talked since. He said he doesn't regret it at all.
Personally, I think it'd be better to take a risk and go then to always wonder what would've happened..

Thanks for all your thoughts and suggestions.
I thought about it all day today and decided to go through with it.
I talked to her a little more and she seems more excited than I am....don't know how that's possible.

Anyhow, I plan to go with no expectations at all. I want to get in touch with my best friend again. If something happens, who knows, we'll see if it goes that far. If not, no worries, it's been fun and I think I finally get my closure and can move on.

Just bought the plane tickets. :noes:

sounds like you're being a bit over dramatic but at the same time you obviously have feelings for her. as stated, i would go as well just to see how things are. then proceed from there.

14 years is a pretty damned long time, bro. I don't think he's being over dramatic. Maybe a bit of a romantic at heart, but not over dramatic.

In for the conclusion of the story.
