I can pick up a weaver mount, 4x32 long eye relief scope and rings for less than $100 on ebay. I don't have a lot of experience with scopes. How worthless is this thing gonna be if I get a cheap one?

I'll take off the rear leaf sight and replace it with a weaver rail. I'd mount the scope on that. Basically I wanna make it into a scout rifle.

I wouldn't go too cheap on a gun with as much recoil as a Mosin.

That's exactly what I'm thinking. A too cheap scope won't be able to hold zero on a Mosin.

Mounting a forward scope does not a scout rifle make.

Consider just hunting down an original military scope and turned down bolt.

    I don't have a C&R so if I want an SKS it's $150 minimum + hours of cosmo removal :o

    Dont do that...

This is the mount that you want!!!!

You do not have to drill and you have a scout setup on your mosin nagant..

    Good Shooting

Very nice, did you get it with the scope or track down the stuff yourself?

Actually, the 91/30 PU Sniper is a Coles replica that I purchased for $400. The scope and mount are present production replicas mounted on a wartime mosin. I was initally intending to put together a PU from war time parts, but for me the Coles replica was a better value.
