Well, not me, but I am trying to help some friends out. Right now, they are having their site hosted free, but the agreement is that the host gets to put up AdSense ads and the money is his. They are awful when it comes to this, but I started thing... Would they benefit from paying for their own host, and setting up their own AdSense for the monies? I have no way to get actual adsense hits, but I don't know what a host would cost for such traffic.

Hosting is what... 8 bucks a month? pretty sure you should be able to monetize to $8 a month with either adsense... or you could try some CPA type ads and make a shit load more.

you could definitely benefit from hosting it yourself rather than free hosting. Whether or not adsense is the best choice will only tell once you try it out for a couple of weeks. I would try an adsense ad or two along with a cpa offer for something music related such as ringtones

With the amount of space they're using, what would a hosting plan run them? 8 bucks a month seems really cheap... The guy that's doing the hosting for them said that they're getting an 800.00 plan for free  I don't see how it would ever possibly be that much.

$8 a month would be shared, and I am not sure how long they would last on a shared account with those stats

I have $9/month hostgator account and have over a dozen sites on it. One of them had more traffic/hits than that for a while and never had any problems whatsoever.:coold:

I've got 44 sites on one of my hostgator plans. total traffic is about 22K per month. More than half are wp blogs.

I've also got another site that averages 8-10K per month that is mostly video, hosted on a different shared hostgator plan.

Both are hosted on hostgator shared plans (baby croc).

    Haven't had any issues yet.

"unlimited" bandwidth... they get you on the CPU usage. I haven't had any problems with bw yet and my video site does quite a bit. All vids are hosted on my hg.

I have done 5gb a day with one site, no problem with shared. (hostgator)

It's really not the Bandwidth that is the problem (most of the time) but CPU and Memory usage. (hostgator will cancel/request upgrade if you hit 25% for 5 minutes, or something super similar)

and I would not doubt if his site would not hit that, with it being a sirius radio talk show

I love hostgator, I have their business plan, but for something like what he is doing, I am not sure I would trust a shared plan with it

Yeah even a VPS, im sure whatever adverts you ran on it, with some optimization, will pay for the host. If not well over using CPA ad's that are targeted for their users.

Holy shit, I wish all my sites for the year looked like one month worth of your site.

The question nobody here has asked is if they are streaming the show from their site...

No shared host is going to deal with that IMO.

Either way, even if it's $50/m for a VPS or $100 for a budget dedi...if that's good quality traffic they'll make that back easily.
