When I commissioned, my father pinned on his old rank onto me. He was incredibly proud as well.

I have one bar, that I got while in training as a reminder for what we were working for. I had that engraved with Saturdays date, my commissioning date.

Should I keep that for myself, or give it to my father? I think it would mean a lot to him.

    Opinions?

Give it to him... He gave you his... which I'm sure you'll never get rid of, just the same way he'll never get rid of your's, and like you said, it'll mean a lot to him... I think that would be one of the best presents ever...

Give it to him. He will no doubt give it back to you when he passes, and one day maybe you can give it to your son.

I already gave him the one, he seemed to appreciate it. That's a great idea on getting on engraved with his commissioning date - I'll have to do that. off to the reserve base tomorrow to pickup rank and whatnot, I'll have to sneak in an extra set of bars.

FYI. I gave it to him, he was very happy. He will be using it as a tie tack on his pilots uniform. he would just wear it on the lapel but its not 'authorized'

    :)
