Can't beat the "nifty fifty" for the price. Pretty sharp lens for sure. I thought it was a generic rule of thumb to have on in your camera bag. :wavey:

It's the only lens under $300 worth having.

low light focus is horrid. not to mention the focus isnt always accurate. focus is slower and noisy. i'd say save up and get the 50 1.4.

I has the 50mm f/1.4 and love it. Of course 1.2>1.4>1.8 but like it has been said above, the $1500 price difference from 1.4 to 1.2 is crazy.

What kind of concert/how close will you be? I shot some pics for the first time a couple weeks ago and I thought 50 was too long for my Rebel XTi and the tiny bar. Example, this was taken from approximately 8-10 feet.

BTW that's Duff McKagan of Guns 'N Roses/Velvet Revolver fame.

There was a guitarist right in front of me, 6-8 feet.

Although the lens was good for some close up shots, it was too long for a lot of the stuff I would have liked to shoot. A 20 and 35 would have been handy for this. Mind you, the stage was like 20x15 and the bar holds maybe 200 people max.

well, its going to be at the knitting factory in hollywood, i have never been there

worse comes to worse i will use an aspherical tamaron lens, but it has a variable f2.8-4.0 i think

The 50 might be good in a venue the size of the Knitting Factory main stage. I think you may need a photo pass to get in a SLR there. I've never been there, but I have looked into a few times as I've known some guys that have played there.

I know that it is supposed to be one of the nicest venues in Hollywood, so hopefully the lighting should be pretty strong there making it easier to focus and get some clear shots.
