You will have to buy Win7 probably. If you're not crazy about the screen resolution then its decent I guess, pricey but within reason

    1. it's okay.

    2. the rep is wrong.

what are you looking for in a laptop? the only good things about the laptop are the discrete nvidia graphics and led backlit screen. everything else is average for the price range.

fatwallet.com and slickdeals.net will list good laptop deals

go to the forums section on either site, that's were the deals are first posted. don't bother with the front page deals, if a deal shows up on the front page, it's too late.

search for the word laptop in the search field on the upper right hand corner under todays top deals.. and then click the "hot deals" forum on the left to list the threads with laptop deals.

Im tryng to find a laptop with 4 gigs of memory and a dedicated nvidia card for video games. For under $800. If anyone sees a deal like that please post it, otherwise I might get that acer I was looking at.

    memory you can upgrade yourself

    ddr3 won't make much of a difference vs dd2 on a laptop

i upgraded my laptop to 4gb of ddr2 ram for $17.

if you buy the memory yourself, your options should open up.

when it comes to laptops I dont do anything myself. Im not technical enough. desktops ok, but I dont touch laptops. so I want to buy something with everything in it.

I cant find a better deal on a gamer laptop than the one I have listed.

it's actually just as easy to install ram on laptops as desktops nowadays. unscrew a plate on the bottom. click in the ram. put the cover back.

i performed a brief search, and yes, the acer you listed is the best you can get under that budget right now.

would you consider a used/refurbished laptop from dell under their dell outlet site? maybe there's an xps laptop under $800. i have a 15% off coupon dell home outlet if you need.

Thanks but nahh. If I get refurbished I wont want to pay more than $400 because of the warranty.
I wasnt sure about buying a Dell. I have a Dell now and the battery died after 1 year which pissed me off. So was thinking of going with another brand

you get the same warranty as new from dell. min 1 yr.

    dunno about hp/gw outlets.

    just throwing out options.

if you have to get a laptop now, it seems the acer is the best you can get now. if you can wait, just watch fw/sd. a deal will pop up from time to time.

that Acer actually has a very good price for having a GT 130M graphics
these are the only ones that can match it at $800 price point at newegg

    Lenovo - T6500, GT 130M (same specs as the Acer) - $799
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834146584

    Toshiba - T6500, HD 4650 (a little better than GT 130M) - $799
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834114653

there are some with 9600M or GT 120M graphics, but you might as well get the GT 130M.

note that the GT 130M is considered mid-range. if you want kick ass graphics, you need more money.

    Thanks for the advice.
I ended up buying this one you suggested
    Toshiba - T6500, HD 4650 (a little better than GT 130M) - $799
    newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834114653

I debated the Toshiba with the Acer for like 2 hours then just decided on the Toshiba for the slightly larger screen, the free upgrade to Windows 7 and Consumer Reports says Toshiba is ranked #3 for satisfacton. So hope I made the right choice
    thanks
