I know there is that giant thread about it, but that's more geared towards those who have the game discussing it. I am not one of those people yet....I looked through it to see if I find some info before starting this thread and I couldnt find answers to my questions.

For those of you playing it, would you recommend it as a "buy" or a "rent"?

Is it something that was like pancakes, all exciting at first, but now you're fucking sick of it?

Any particular game would you compare it to?

    Anything cool I should know?

I'm thinking about throwing it on my Xmas list because I really have no ideas for my mother this year and she wants to know like RIGHT NOW (hence this thread)....it looks cool as hell but I don't want it to end up being one of those games I play once and it goes on the shelf...I'll feel bad.

    Thanks in advance!

It's obviously fun hence the gigantic fucking thread about it. It's like if you took Halo and gave it RPG elements (upgrade weapons, level up and get talent skills, etc.) and added cell shading. It's fun. It's even more fun if you play co-op with a buddy, cause shooting shit into oblivion is just better with a friend.

it's a moderately long game. i dont think a rental, unless from netflix, would give you enough time to play through it all, but it can be done.

the excitement comes from finding better weapons and class mods. the story is pretty interesting, but gets easily lost if you play it co-op because sometimes only the person who turns in the finished quests gets to read the dialogue. the rest of the players would need to look through their mission list and read it in there. i'd still recommend playing this with friends than going solo.

gameplay-wise i'd compare it to phantasy star online(DC), but in an FPS setting and much larger maps.

    .

I love the concept but it didn't get quite pulled off. I got annoyed after a few days of playing. They said you're supposed to have a different experience every time no matter where you go even if you come back to the same spot...but then you quickly learn that everything has the same spawn location and you can expect something will spawn there if you walk out of sight of said area. So basically fight your way out of a town, complete your mission, and then fight your way back.

I got all the way to the end of this long ass tunnel after fighting hordes of enemies and semi-boss enemies only to get to a boss that I wasn't a high enough level to beat so I had to turn my happy ass back around and fight my way back out of the cave to get to safety:madfawk:

Basically if you liked the loot system of Diablo and other similar RPGs you should be able to get into the looting system of Borderlands. Making your character better and constantly upgrading guns is fun shit.

Reply value is only there if you want to run through the same storyline again with another class... Which is still fun if you like getting phat lewtz.

I was also really hoping there would be an element of customizability. Like scrapping certain weapons to get their perks and apply them to other weapons

gotta admit I couldn't get into it. I'm a big fan of mmorpgs and I had to force myself to play, probably put in less than 10 hours before I gave up..no clue why, i wanted to like it from all the reviews, but i couldn't.
    :wtc:
and yes i played online. i never play single player unless i have to.

Playing with others wouldn't change the boring wasteland environment.

You're right... If you only played the game for the environment.

Wtf is wrong with you? Pancakes?? I'll be dreaming about those after I'm dead.

In all seriousness, I'd buy it if you're into shooters, because you can't play multiplayer on a rented game...well at least that's the way renting works where I rent. And multiplayer is where the game gets really fun.

I have to look at it the entire time I'm playing, don't I? I didn't like Bioshock for the same reason. Hours of playing and the environment never changed.

Didn't like that game either. I turned it off after I got to Megaton.

I kept running out of ammo, never finding enough, and spending all my time trying to find more. I got frustrated and haven't played since.
