So, my warranty has lapsed. I beat the hell out of this thing. It is the only way I can work. Its always with me.

    Should I buy Apple Care?

i dunno the rules exactly, but don't you need to buy it while you're still within the first year?

I wouldn't buy it. It doesn't really cover any of the things I would need "insurance" for.

    no accidental damage protection
    no water damage protection
    no theft protection
    etc...

Plus, a standard depot repair is not pricey.

Once your warranty expires, it wont work.

Its too late. You can't do it if you wanted to.

My iPod has broken many times because I don't take care of it and they replace it instantly. Pretty sure it'd be the same for the mbp, regardless of what the official rules are.

    1. you can only renew/add applecare while you currently have applecare (1 year from purchase if you don't get the extended plan when you buy the apple)

    b. applecare is the biggest rip off apple has. Keep your $350 and replace the component yourself. Chances are, if you ever need applecare it won't cover it OR the repair will be less than $350. There are rare circumstances, but I haven't come across one incident that made applecare a good deal (I did IT in a department with about 15 Apple machines and I have personally owned 6.)

They get stolen before they get broken...

Wrong. If they see water damage, they wont cover it. If they see accidental damage, they wont cover it.
