I'm looking at buying my first shotgun. I would like one that is easily modified and has accessories out there for it. I'm going more towards making it a tactical type shot gun. 12 gauge preferably.

  2. The two most popular choices, by far, are the Mossberg 500 series and the Remington 870 series. Some mods make sense, like a side saddle and a light, but lots of other stuff is ghastly rice. Don't rice out your shotgun.

Remington 870 is pretty standard. Cheap, reliable and has a huge aftermarket.

Remington 1100 Tactical, FN SLP, or Benelli M2 if you've got more cash to spend. Probably better off with the 870 since it's your first shotgun, though :o

I was looking at the Remington 870 and the Mossberg 500 to start with.

What's the difference between the Mavrick 88 and the Mosberg 500?

Buy a used 870 at a gun or pawn shop and don't add $500 worth of junk to it. Once you've put a few hundred dollars of ammo through it decide if it you think it still need those dumb accessories you are probably thinking about now :big grin:
